So you've finally discovered the splendid joys that can be found in woodcraft, so much so that you have decided to take the plunge and give it a try yourself. You have invested on some useful tools, basic and otherwise, as well as a rich library of paint applications to create the most vibrant works out of the lumber you will purchase per assignment. What is needed to be done?

Well, if you're just starting out with woodcraft, then it is highly advised that you should start with some basic woodcraft projects.

It would take you some time to master the advanced techniques like rounding up the corners and carving intricate patterns. And often, you'll never be able to learn these by merely indulging with theoretical instructions. You need practice. You need to apply what you have learned.

Basic woodcraft projects are known for their simplicity, as well as their accessibility for beginners. They are perfect entry points for novices to the hobby. You could create these projects yourself by applying the basics you have learned from a plethora of resources available online and in print publications. Or you could purchase some pre-made woodcraft plans where the "beginner's level" is indicated on the label.

Here are some basic woodcraft projects recommended for students to woodworking:

Bookshelves. Bookshelves are very easy to make. The measurements needed leave little space for errors. And the designs of these items give you a lot of liberty to experiment on some artistic touches you could employ.

Porch swings. Contrary to popular belief, porch swings are one of the easiest projects to pursue. The only problem you will encounter is how to deal with the heavier lumber you will have to work with. Other than that, it's a great opportunity for you to hone your skills.

Tool racks. Tool racks, or any other racks for utensils, plates and similar items, are not only simple plans, but are cost-effective as well. Some skeletal designs would require a limited number of wood. The sheer affordability of a project such as this makes it perfect for beginners who might be afraid to commit mistakes because they don't want to waste their investments.

Simple figurines. Angels are the most popular figures recommended for beginners, because some of these carvings can be made with a series of triangular shapes. Eventually, you'd want to branch out to more complicated designs. Your works may be rough on the edges at first, but in time, you'll learn the tricks that would transform your creations into amazing art.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Fantastic woodcraft artistry cannot be developed overnight. So take your time, practice well, and soon enough, you'll be carving wood like the experts.
